Scrap Metal Processing & Value Recovery

Robinson Metals processes mining and industrial scrap streams to maximise landfill diversion and value recovery. Assets are downsized, segregated and prepared for domestic or export recycling pathways depending on grade, contamination, logistics and commercial viability. This supports environmental objectives and reduces waste-handling burdens for mine sites and industrial facilities.

Materials Handled

We process a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap streams including:

  • grinding media & mill liners

  • PC/EX shovel components

  • dump truck trays & mobile fleet parts

  • tanks, pipework & process steelwork

  • structural steel & heavy plate

  • copper, aluminium & stainless

  • conveyor rubber & poly/HDPE piping

These streams are common by-products of mine maintenance, shutdown, closure and decommissioning projects.

Segregation & Processing

Material is segregated to improve recycling yields, reduce contamination and increase commercial recovery. Non-ferrous grades are separated to maintain purity and enhance downstream value. Polymer streams such as conveyor rubber and poly piping are also prepared for specialist recycling channels where available.

Downstream Recycling Pathways

Depending on material grade and volume, processed scrap can be directed to:

  • local metal recyclers

  • interstate processors

  • overseas buyers via containerised export

  • specialist recyclers for rubber & polymer streams

Containerisation enables international buyers for select grades such as non-ferrous metals and grinding media where export markets are commercially attractive.

Environmental & ESG Benefits

Value recovery directly contributes to ESG and landfill diversion metrics. For clients reporting against internal waste and sustainability targets, Robinson Metals can provide environmental reporting summarising recovered tonnages, material classifications, recycling pathways and disposal outcomes.

Commercial Models

Commercial arrangements vary depending on material grade, location and logistics. In remote mining regions where transport and site access introduce additional cost, projects are commonly structured around contractor-funded removal rather than scrap purchase. This aligns with environmental compliance and mine closure activities while maintaining commercial transparency.

Client Outcomes

  • reduced landfill disposal

  • improved ESG & sustainability reporting

  • lower waste handling burden

  • higher material recovery rates

  • clearer downstream pathways

  • reduced stockpiling of redundant assets
